MESSAGE FROM THE COACH.

Yes, we're still alive & kicking. It has been awhile since our last blog posting. Sorry to keep you hanging. After getting back from Latvia/ Lithuania we decided to slow down for December and Christmas. So far January seems to be a month of waiting for summer hockey camp location confirmations (which is coming slowly), and working on the beginnings of a new program of which we are partnering with Athletes In Action. Very shortly I will update the blog with all the new & exciting things we have been working on.
The other day I pulled out my notebook from some of the coaching courses I've taken in the last few years. Something profound stood out to me from a leadership module I took at the NCCP 3 course at UVIC in Victoria.
I'd like to share some notes from Norm Olenick, course instructor.

6 Qualities of a Highly Effective Leader
1) Leaders create values
2) Leaders develop committed followers
3) Leaders inspire lofty accomplishments
4) Leaders model appropriate behaviors
5) Leaders focus attention on important issues
6) Leaders connect their group to the outside world

These 6 leadership qualities really do emcompass YWAM Hockey's vision which is to see players and coaches come alive for Christ, bringing God's transforming power into rinks around the world.
What is the most effective way to see this vision happen?
By one player, or coach, at a time, encountering God through the example and the modeling of their teammate, or coach, who publicly walks out their faith in a natural way.
In Hockey DTS we call this, "being the gospel".
What about you? What about me?
Are we "being the gospel" at work? school? home?
Ouch! Sometimes honest reflection hurts.

Hi Glen,

I thought alot about leadership over the summer, and so appreciated your insights. As you know I've been thinking alot lately about what it means to live out the gospel, and what "the gospel" is. The "good news" I think was about kingdom living and that's alot different I believe from the traditional emphasis on taking every opportunity to "tell". Thanks for your comment to one of my posts in which you said that it was all right to rethink some of the things we've been taught. Bless you.
